Induction & launch in China
Induction & launch in China – Our gratitude to the Spring 2024 cohort for showing dedication and the spirit of togetherness
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 is now etched in the history of Tuopu and of the UK’s National Professional Qualifications: for the first time since the reformed NPQs, an infrastructure has now been developed to extend the same UK opportunities to educators in China, making a small contribution to Sino-British private collaboration. The philosophy of 'togetherness’ is now concrete in professional development of teachers delivering English curricula for our children in China.
The pioneering cohorts, in the National Professional Qualification for Headship and for Leading Teaching, come from 5 cities – Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Yantai and Wuhan. The successful launch of these qualifications in China shows the commitment of educators to continuing professional development, and appreciation of the importance of standards in teaching and leadership.
Tuopu would like to thanks these participants both for their commitment to professional development and their continuing efforts to delivering high quality education to children in their respective schools.
As part of the delivery strategy, the participants also have the opportunity for their schools to be hosting venues of the face-to-face events that part of the NPQ curriculum. As such, these events will be hosted in the cities where participants are located. For this Spring 2024 cohorts: NPQLT participants will be attending events hosted in Shanghai, Yantai, Shenzhen. NPQH participants will also be at the same venues, and also in Chengdu for their fourth module.
Tuopu’s induction event was held on a Sunday, after consultation with participants. Whilst unusual, the decision to hold the induction on a Sunday evening is part of the need to contextualise the delivery – making it flexible and accessible to all. Not only does this testify to participants’ commitment to CPD, it also shows what they are willing to do in order not to disrupt their school work. It is important to also note at this point that all participants have agreed to attend face-to-face sessions on Saturday mornings in different cities, and to participate in webinars in the evenings as scheduled.
Embedded in Tuopu’s delivery approach is the process of consultation, ensuring that participants have a say in the organisation of the programme. Tuopu’s understanding of the local conditions of work informs the programme scheduling. But notwithstanding the careful considerations that go into the delivery planning, it would be meaningless without the willingness of the NPQ participants in China.

Tuopu Team would like to uses this opportunity to congratulate the first China cohort, and to thank each and every participant for their dedication. We wish you, together with our local facilitators, a positive and successful professional learning and development through NPQ.
Appreciation of the strength of partnership working in the delivery of NPQ in China
Credits for bringing the National Professional Qualifications for delivery in China must be given to LLSE for their trust, respect and belief in equity in education. LLSE’s vision of excellence in school leadership has no boundaries. There are no borders to separate and divide educators, whether in China or in UK. The successful start of this project in China also rests on the willingness of many people at LLSE and in China, and the effective use of communication technologies.
Tuopu, as the International Delivery Partner of LLSE, is able to implement the NPQs for the Spring 2024 cohorts because of its approach to partnership working: local organisations, local marketing and interviews, local participants, local facilitators, local schools, contextualised provision.
The effectiveness of partnership working depends on mutual recognition and respect of what partners contribute to the project. The journey for the launch of the LLSE’s NPQ programmes in China started a few months earlier. This would not have been possible without the partnership between LLSE and Tuopu, rooted in the trust between LLSE Partnership Director’s office and Tuopu’s Director of Programmes.
Equally significant are the local partnerships between Tuopu and Eurus on one hand, and Tuopu and Bright Design Studios. The vision of Tuopu has always been to provide equal opportunities for educators in China to gain the same world-leading qualifications. However, developing this vision into reality would not materialize without the partnership with the teams at LLSE, Eurus, Bright Design, and the networking systems provided by the WeChat platform.
From the outset, LLSE took a positive stand on having Tuopu fully represent it in China; Eurus and Tuopu were on the same wavelength and developed a shared vision; Bright Design Studio was very quick in realizing the value of the mission; facilitators were keen and spent nights on training with their colleagues in UK; later, with Rob Coaching, the partnership circle was complete. All this made it possible to connect with teachers and leaders who attended series of interviews and support sessions to start their journeys: from applications for DfE’s Teacher Reference Numbers to completion of LLSE’s application process.
The partnership approach enabled both organisations to develop a promotion and recruitment strategy based on the needs of teachers and leaders in bilingual and international schools. Ultimately, the full credit for the viability of the NPQ project in China is to be given to our pioneering cohorts, who have, as of this week, embarked on their study programmes. They will now be involved in an extensive and intensive process of developing their reflective and reflexive capacities for leadership grounded in a very strong mastery of the implementation framework driven by the latest evidence for effective headship and teaching. No doubt, there will be challenges for this new cohort; our facilitators, specialist coach and delivery partners will be marching hand-in-hand with them, providing expert guidance to achieve success.
With one eye on the assessment weeks, set to start on 3rd February 2025 for NPQLT, and 10th September 2025 for NPQH, attention also turns to the partners' October 2024 recruitment campaign for which there are limited places on:
National Professional Qualification for Headship
National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership
National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching
National Professional Qualification for Leading Teacher Development
National Professional Qualification for Leading Behaviour and Culture

We hope you do not miss out on these opportunities. Join the new generation of expert educators and future school leaders.
