WHAT IS NPQ?

A Department of Education (UK) qualification for leadership in schools.

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are professional development courses for teachers and leaders in schools, colleges and early years settings. The courses have been developed in collaboration with education experts and are informed by up-to-date research and evidence.

There are a range of different options to choose from, suitable for teachers and leaders at any stage of their career.

Participants will be registered with the UK Department of Education for a Teacher Refer- ence Number before the start of their course.

The key topics covered over the course are:

• School / college culture

• Teaching 

• Curriculum and assessment 

• Behaviour

• Additional and special educational needs and disabilities

• Professional development

• Organisational management 

• Implementation

• Working in partnership

• Governance and accountability

Each topic is explored through the lens of the work of a headteacher.
